Aaaah, endelig!
Last ned In Rainbows - med god samvittighet!!

I natt (10.10.07) slapp Radiohead sitt siste album -- In Rainbows.

Anmeldelser av: Radiohead - Kid A
Skrevet: 25.10.2007
Okay, I'm not going to get into what Radiohead album is best and what isn't. Being that I worked in the music industry, I defend an artist's right to do what they want with their music. It's difficult for me to criticise those in the Arts, that doesn't mean I don't. It depends on what form it takes for me.
However, I am here to review this particular version of KID A.
Funnily enough, I find it a bit odd, it a good way.
It has a wealth of artwork in small book form. The images are printed on what is now considered polished CD-like cardboard sleeves, but each one is sealed. I mention that because it feels a bit strange in ones hand. Each page is thick and - well, different to the touch. So much so, I almost wanted to open the glued thick cardboard pages because my mind kept thinking, this is odd - is there something inside?
In any case, the artwork is brilliant! as is the music - of course.
Even though this is labelled as an 'Enhanced' CD, I haven't' even taken the disc out of the package to listen to it. I only wanted it for my Radiohead collection. I love KID A, and I can't imagine that the original and this one sound that much different. I don't know, I'll have to find out. I bought it on eBay, when I could have got it for less here at Amazon. Stupid move, but it wasn't available here at the time. Hence, I'm through with eBay. Amazon is fine for me.
Anyway, yes, this is for those who are collectors of Radiohead music, and the amazing artwork that goes into their CD's.
Enjoy it if you do decide to buy it - it's a great item that's selling on rare CD sites for big bucks - depending on where it was pressed.

I got into Radiohead a year or two ago and they have since become one of my favorite bands. Every album they have put out has been at least good, and several of them are just awesome. It's a tough choice picking their best CD, but this one just barely beats out OK Computer. Both are pretty much flawless, but I prefer Kid A because it is more revolutionary. This is the album that no one expected Radiohead to make and that's part of its appeal. It is meant to be listened to in its entirety, much like Dark Side of the Moon, because this album as a whole is greater than just the sum of its parts. There's a strange energy and emotion that flows through all the blips and bleeps and even though this is the least human Radiohead CD it is still something beautiful, and I think that's the point. If you are looking for a hit single or traditional songs, skip this one. If you are willing to experience something truly unique and moving, give this one a spin. You won't regret it.

Huge Radiohead fun. But this album is hard to get into. It's so bad that the band released Amnesiac right after to cover up this failure.

amazing fusion of genres... don't buy into "it's all / too electronic"
Skrevet: 16.09.2007
I was skeptic about Kid A as initially it seemed very electronic and just different, but I came to truly appreciate it. National Anthem is one of my favorite Radiohead songs ever (and I own every album), and Everything in its Right Place, How to Disappear Completely, Optimistic, and Idioteque are other highlights.
This is really a unique Radiohead album in that it is more electronic sounding than others, especially earlier albums. It's really what you expect if you followed prior albums, particularly after OK Computer (one of the best albums of all time).
A lot of people I know hate on this album for the digital / electronic sounds, but I personally enjoy that aspect despite the fact I'm not big into electronic music. Admittedly, I do enjoy the slightly strange, eclectic sounds like that of Queens of the Stone Age, The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd... etc. DON'T be fooled though, hits like How To..., Optimistic, and Motion Picture Soundtrack aren't electronic really at all - much more akin to earlier Radiohead.

Most alternative rock fans have already heard this album, but if you haven't then I strongly recommend buying it and giving it A FEW listens. I emphasize this because Kid A (especially if you are used to 'The Bends' and "OK Computer') takes many listens to adjust to and truly absorb. Honestly, there are few albums that I own that I have listened to straight through more times than Kid A, and if that isn't a strong recommendation to buy then I don't know what else I can say.
What makes Radiohead arguably the greatest band in the world today (and probably one of the best of all time) is the genius in transition from OK Computer to Kid A. So experimental, risky, redefining and impressive. It never ceases to amaze me that a pretty standard rock band who had one radio hit somehow evolved into the deep, intellectual, truly revolutionary sounding act that is displayed here. This album hasn't aged a day since its release, and Idioteque is probably one of my favorite songs of all time!

Pretty Good, But Overrated
Skrevet: 31.10.2007
The details of this album have been debated ad nauseum, so I won't go over that. I'm just going to offer my basic opinion. After my brother strongly recommending this CD to me, I bought it. I have listened to it in my car for many months and have withheld judgment until now.
I give the music 4 stars and Yorke's singing 1.5 stars. Honestly, his high, grating, non-musical voice took a while to stand long enough to give the music a chance. Compared to Yorke, Robert Plant is Pavarotti. Having said that, after my distaste for Yorke's "singing" waned I was able to enjoy the music. I don't find it to be as revolutionary and genius as Pink Floyd, but it is fairly substantive.
Usually I can learn to tolerate and even like what is technically poor singing, and to some degree that has occurred with Yorke, but in the end I've had extreme difficulty "getting over" his sound.

This is perhaps one of the best albums ever, from any band. Unfortunately not everyone agrees, but that's why Radiohead is Radiohead. They never wanted to be #1 on the pop charts. Everything they do is experimental and ground-breaking and heart-wrenching. Ok Computer, like most Radiohead albums is not a soundtrack for parties and fun times. It's personal and you need to pipe it through good headphones and actually listen to it without distractions. Radiohead's music is art in the form of sound, and just like a painting, statue, or movie, it requires undivided attention to appreciate. Some people will never appreciate it, but I think most Radiohead-haters are just not really listening.

OK Computer is supposedly Radiohead's masterpiece. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but it's certainly a nice album overall.
"Airbag" opens the album. Many consider it a classic, but not for me. It does open with a good heavy riff and features a U2-like vocal melody. "Paranoid Android" is next up. A BRILLIANT multi-part song. Wow. Incredible! The guitar playing rules. Check out the cartoon music video if you ever get a chance. It's great. "Subterranean Homesick Alien" opens with a mysterious intro which then turns into a slow, dreamy dance-like vocal melody. Another classic.
"Exit Music (For a Film)" is a captivatingly quiet little tune. The intro to "Let Down" reminds me of something off the Genesis album "A Trick of the Tail" and the main vocal melody reminds me of an old Who song. It's a good song though, so don't think I'm just comparing it to older songs from years ago. "Karma Police" is another incredible song with its catchy vocal melody and interesting lyrics. It's a classic and nothing more needs to be said.
Elsewhere we have some filler tracks like "Climbing up the Walls" that personally doesn't do a whole lot to excite me, but to be fair, the song contains a haunting atmosphere. "No Surprises" sounds like an updated take on that old 50's rock-ballad style. I love it. "Lucky" is perhaps the most under-appreciated song on the entire disc. I love the quiet vocal melody build up. Really good song.
I'll give the album four out of five stars, because I think that's the right call. I have to be honest about something though. I really don't see much of a connection to Pink Floyd on this release. Maybe songs like "Comfortably Numb" can be compared to something from this album, but otherwise, while both artists are good at the dreamy atmospheric stuff, the two bands clearly aren't the same, in my opinion. Two separate beasts.

Definitely Radiohead's best album, and one of my favorites

This is one of those albums that takes at least a couple of listens all the way through to sink in due to the unique nature of the arrangements. Once my brain caught up to it, it became one of my very favorite things to listen to. It's often described as depressing or otherwise negative, but to me the album has a very positive message. To me, the message is that we as human beings shouldn't let the mechanisms of modern society force us into a monotonous, uptight, overly programmed existence. This message is the theme of the album, but even without that theme, the music would stand on its own as brilliant. This is what sets this album apart from other "concept" albums. The songs all fit together to convey the message, but each could stand on its own. There's no "filler" on this album (except "fitter, happier", but that's more of an interlude that a song).

acoustic rock + excellent lyrics = early Radiohead goodness
Skrevet: 16.09.2007
It shouldn't be a surprise that the first studio album is simpler, more acoustic-driven, and lyrically less abstract and more folky.
This album has more mass appeal than most other Radiohead albums.
Highlights for me are Stop Whispering, Thinking about You, Anyone Can Play Guitar, Creep, and Blow Out.

This was Radioheads first album and is not as easy to digest as ok computer or the bends. Its a okay album but nothing great about it at all. Creep is an incredible track. Overall I would check this cd out only if your a die hard fan. It will get little replay compared to Ok computer and the bends.

Inconsistent and unimpressive - Radiohead's later work is far better
Skrevet: 21.07.2007
Had you told me in 1993 that Radiohead would go on to great success with critically acclaimed albums like The Bends and especially the masterpiece OK Computer (and its near-masterpiece follow-up, Kid A), I would have probably backed away from you as fast as possible. Most of Pablo Honey is rather poor guitar rock - How Do You? might be the worst song the group ever recorded, a song with pathetic lyrics, while songs like Prove Yourself and I Can't both are poor imitation U2. While Radiohead's U2 influence would prevail throughout their career, it's especially emphasized here: even two of the stronger songs (Anyone Can Play Guitar; Stop Whispering) remind me a lot of a certain massively popular Irish rock band.
Now there's one really impressive song here, and of course it's Creep, the group's first hit, the song that unfairly got them branded as one-hit wonders before The Bends came along and shut everybody up. While the song has its detractors, even from the Radiohead fanbase, I really like it. I first heard it as a preschooler and I remember it did a combination of scaring and offending me (keep in mind Beauty and the Beast also scared me at this time) - the falsetto, guitar scratches and lyrics scared me, while the line "what the hell am I doing here?" (keep in mind that I only heard the radio edit, the one free of the F-Bomb), and "I wish I was special" offended me - again, I was in preschool, and if any preschooler was caught repeating I wish I was special they would have been given the "everyone's special in their own special way" lecture. Anyway, nowadays I quite enjoy it. Thom's falsetto in the bridge is VERY effective, the dynamic shifts are clever, the guitar scratches just RULE, and it's the most melodic song about self-loathing I've ever heard. And while it's tempting to dismiss the lyrics as angsty whining, the truth is they do an efficient job of portraying a person who is messed-up, possessive, neurotic, and well... creepy. And the use of the f-bomb adds a lot to the song with just one word: the radio edit (with a clumsy "you're so very special" lyric) makes it seem like mere self-pity, whereas the "you're so f***in' special" gives it more of a "well, I suck, but so do you" feel - a double put-down, kind of Dylanesque. Still, it's nothing Nirvana hadn't done before.
Now if everything on this album was as good as Creep, we'd have a fine album on our hands. Alas, that is not the situation. I already discussed my dislike of How Do You?, Prove Yourself and I Can't, and most of it's about as "good" as those: I doubt many people have fond memories of overly commercial rockers like Ripcord or Vegetable, for example; Thinking About You changes the sound up (folk-rock! Ooh!), but in truth is a pathetic song as well. I suppose You is an okay precursor to The Bends' sound (though not quite as good as that album's best), and both Lurgee and Blow Out are enjoyable if forgettable and unspectacular. So there's one great song (Creep), two good ones (Anyone Can Play Guitar; Stop Whispering), some okay ones (Blow Out; You; Lurgee). But this is by far Radiohead's weakest album. (I know I gave Hail to the Thief a lower rating, but that one's grown on me, and I think I'll edit my review of it sometime soon). Each of their later efforts is far stronger.

Unfortunately this is one of those albums that has only one good song on it - in this case, Creep. I still love that song nearly 15 years after its release, but I've always found the rest of this album completely unbearable. I just can't make myself listen to any of the other songs. Thank god the ipod generation came along so I could copy that one song and forget about the rest of the album.
