Jeg har blitt et barn igjen. Noen vil hevde jeg aldri har blitt voksen, men det er en annen sak. PS3 er i huset, og det passer fett nå som mørketiden er her. Hadde siklet på denne lenge, og nå klarte jeg ikke vente lenger.
Da passet det bra at 40 GB utgave til redusert pris har kommet. Rundt 3700,- får man den for nå om dagen (nov.07). Forskjellene fra den langt dyrere utgaven er 20 GB mindre, 2 USB porter færre, ikke mulighet for å spille PS2 spill, samt en minnekortleser. Ingen av disse tingene savner jeg, og er derfor storfornøyd med å spare noen lapper.
Du verden så mye som er nytt siden den gammeldagse PS2 herjet. Den hadde jo ikke harddisk en gang. Makan. Tråløs kontroll er deilig. Den har lang batterilevetid og lades enkelt i USB porten. PS3 kobler du enkelt tråløst til Internett (veldig enkelt og bra), og Internett-tilkobling er et must, for det er mange programvare updates å laste ned, samt da selvfølgelig online-modus på de fleste spill nå om dagen. Og så er det HD kvaliteten da. Kjøp deg en bra HDMI kabel og du er i gang (for jeg regner med at du har en HD-TV når du først kjøper deg PS3). Fy fanken for en grafikkopplevelse. Med litt guffe på stereoen og du blir blåst av sofaen.
PlayStation3 er også en flott Blu-Ray spiller. Det begynner jo å komme en del Blu-Ray DVDer nå, så nå er det ingen grunn til å leie vanlige DVDer lenger (men jeg synes fortsatt 260-270 kr. er litt drøyt for en Blu-Ray film).
Mange fete spilltitler på gang for PS3 nå, selv om fortsatt et stykke bak Xbox 360. Men Sony tar kaka spør du meg. Bedre spillbarhet og maskinen yter bedre.

Fan Noise Unacceptable...Other Problems

I bought the PS3 to use mainly as a blu-ray player, but was excited about the amazing gaming and other uses. On paper, it's an incredible piece of technology. However, in practice, the PS3 has a major flaw you should be prepared for. Contrary to what some have written, the fan noise is a real issue. When there's several YouTube videos abou the PS3's cooling fan noise - what does that tell you? That's it's a figment of imagination? Please... I tried the unit in a horizontal and a vertical position. I tried placing it out in the open and inside a large armoire. There was very little difference with any of these arrangements, although the horizontal position was the worst - it caused my unit to go into the highest fan speed on occasion. God help you if you are in the middle of a movie and it kicks in. It sounds like a dustbuster! Bottom line - even inside of a closed, large armoire (with a foot of space inside on all sides) and sitting 10 feet away, the noise is very distracting during dialogue scenes. I know the PS3 has serious processing power and I can certainly understand a heat issue during gaming, but there is no reason that the PS3 should generate a ton of heat during the playback of a regular DVD or when it is simply on and idle. Better laptops are able to regulate their processors, so that the cooling fans only turn on when the computing capacity is stretched. Why then, can't the PS3 programmers figure this out? I fully believe this is a software issue. By the way, when I updated the firmware, it think the fan problem got slightly worse.

My unit also had trouble with playback of regular DVD's and froze on some menus and during movies, so there was likely a defect with this unit, but I don't believe this had anything to do with the well-documented fan noise. I returned my unit and will order a Samsung blu-ray player. I'm disappointed because I really wanted the PS3 to live up to its promise.

Lots of features for the money, but prefer the 360 for gameplay

I also own the Xbox 360, and while this is a PS3 review, I'll explain what I like and what I don't based on comparison with the Xbox 360 console. I always hate the "which is better" debate with game consoles, as it often comes down to personal preference. Especially when people say one is better without even owning the other. That said, I'll try and present the facts and not just my opinion here so you can see the differences.

What I like about the PS3...

Built in Wi-Fi (360 has add on attachment for ~$100)

Internet Access, with fairly comprehensive browser (none on the 360). Also has accessory capabilities for Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

Complete compatibility with all Playstation 1 & 2 games (360 needs patches to play original Xbox games, and not all games are supported)

Built in Blu-ray disc player (360 has $179 add on for HD DVD)

Recognizes all of my photo and video CDs (something which the 360 seems to struggle with)

Lots of standard memory slots: SD, Compact Flash, USB, Sony Memory stick. Xbox does have USB, but not the others.

60GB Hard drive... much better than the 20 GBs on my 360, although Xbox can be upgraded to 120GB. Not sure about the PS3 hardrive.

What I don't care for...

Playstation controllers. Not as ergonomic as the Xbox controllers, and no force feedback (rumble), although I understand that is coming. The thumbsticks seem to high, and are round topped versus indented. I sometimes have troubles with my thumbs slipping off during gameplay. Built in rechargeable batteries adds no advantage that I can see, and means you will be replacing the whole controller at some point when the battery stops charging properly.

Very limited online community (compared to the 360).

Not a great selection of "next gen" games yet. Most that are out can be purchased for the 360 too. Also, the PS3 games I have seen so far do not appear graphically superior as many claim, and in some cases appear inferior to the 360.

Downloading Demo process. Once you download from the P-Network, you must "install" them to the console, a process that takes quite a while. 360 demos can be played immediately after download finishes.

Online content. Very minimal on the PS3 so far. The 360 has tons, including HD movies and TV.

No console default player options can be set (for example, I always invert the Y axis when gaming). The 360 allows you to preset many game option at the console level so you don't have to do it with each game you put in.

In summary...

The Playstation 3 has a lot of great add on features missing in the Xbox 360, and this was one of the main reasons I got it. For pure gaming I still prefer the 360, but the PS3 already has a lot more included in the base system for the price, and I will be curious to see what happens after a year.

-Download MPEG video straight from built in browser to built in Harddrive and watch videos.
-Browse with multiple browser windows.

Controllers:
-Included in the price wireless controller
-With accelerometer, shake, twist or rock motions

Connections:
-4 USB slots for mouse, keyboard, thumb-drive , external Harddrive or charging controlers.
-Built in Bluetooth, compatible with any Bluetooth mouse, keyboard or wireless headset.
-Built in HDMI HDTV Set. No accessory to buy
-Built in Optic digital audio out with DTS or Digital Dolby , video or gameplay

Free Online Game Play:
-No subscription required to get the software updates and to join multi-player games.

Upgrade:

Playstation 3 at its best!!!

I just bought the PS3 last week and I can't get enough of it! The system is so advance and the graphics are sick! It just goes to show you how advance technology is! I only have 2 games for it (Virtua Fighter 5 and Heavenly Sword) for now and I'm totally hooked. I would recommend to purchase the intercooler fans for more hours of play. This is way better than the XBox 360 because of all of the PS3's functions. XBox 360 also lacks a Blue-Ray Disc player which the PS3 has. By purchasing the PS3, not only can you purchase PS3 games from any region, but you can also play PS2 as well as PS1 games, DVDs, CDs, MP3s, and Blue-Ray DVDs. This is by far the best game console!
